Abstract

1,119,245. Coin-freed apparatus. MICROTHERM Ltd. 15 Aug., 1966 [13 July, 1965], No. 29648/65. Heading G4V. A coin-freed vending machine for delivering an article to an externally accessible point is combined with a microwave oven for heating the article, said oven having a door which is released by insertion of a coin in the vending machine and re-locked on completion of a heating cycle. The oven door 18 moves in slides 20, 21 and is locked in its closed position by a solenoid-operated latch 24, 25. The door is closed automatically by an L-shaped arm 26 pivoted at 27. The arm carries a spring- loaded rod 45 engageable with the top of the door. The arm is spring-urged to follow a cam 35 on the output shaft of motor 33. A second cam 41 on said shaft controls a micro-switch 43. In operation, insertion of a coin in the vending machine releases the latch 24, 25 so that an article may be placed in the oven. On removal of a cooked article from the oven, a switch is closed to complete the circuit of motor 33. The arm 26 pivots to close the door and then returns to its initial position. The motor is de-energized when switch 43 is actuated. If the door meets an obstruction during closing, the rod 45 moves relative to the arm 26 to operate a switch 52 in the motor circuit. In a modification, the oven door 76 is moved between its open and closed positions by an arm 85 attached to a disc 83. The latter is rotated by a coin-freed mechanism. The arm 85 is made in two parts so that if the door meets an obstruction it yields axially to operate a switch (not shown) and stop the motor.
