Straps and bands.-Belts or chains made of infibulated leather or other blanks as described in Specification 10491/15, and applicable as driving-belts, dog leashes, waist belts, &c. are built up in such a way as to have a solid formation with four or more sides of equal length. The blanks, Fig. 15, have narrow necks and holes b with slits c at each end. One or both ends may be extended and provided with a further hole and slit b<1>, c<1>. Fig. 13 shows the formation of a belt, the blanks being bent to staple-shape and threaded through the slits in two directions at right-angles alternately. When extensions are used, they overlap the ends of the adjacent parallel blanks, the hole b in one blank coming against the hole b<1> in the other. The slits and holes may be replaced by elongated slots. Fig. 19 shows a blank having four arms used to build up a four-sided belt, the arms being all turned up in the same direction. Similar blanks may have three arms or more than four. One or more continuous laces may be threaded through the slots in the blanks from side to side to strengthen the belt; or a metal chain may be passed along the centre of the belt. As shown in Fig. 42, a series of separate wire links v may be placed in the belt, the blanks being threaded through the eyes of the links. Another form of link has three eyes, two of which are in plane at right-angles to the third. Fig. 46 shows a belt in which the blanks are used in pairs, the outer one 35 being longer than the inner one 34 to allow for bending. The ends of the last blanks are secured together by a screw wand a socket x, on to which a hook z is screwed; or the screw w may screw directly into the hook z. The other end of the belt may be furnished with a metal ring.
