Abstract

1,118,071. Vehicle suspension links. METALASTIK Ltd. 16 Dec., 1966 [23 Dec., 1965], No. 54739/65. Heading B7D. In an inextensible suspension link of the kind having at each end pivots 21 surrounded by rubber bush assemblies 20, each rubber bushing assembly 20 comprises a pair of coaxial bushes 24 arranged to be subjected in use to both torsional and radial loading, and each bush 24 is of frusto-conical form having a frusto-conical load transmitting surface of large cone angle whereby radial loading stresses the bush in combined shear and compression but mainly in shear. Each bush 24 is bonded between inner and outer end plates 26, 27. Sleeves 30 welded to the inner end plates 26 are press-fitted on a pivot bush 25. Reinforcing straps 29 welded to the outer end plates 27 combine to form a channel 40. Lugs 35 on the inner end plates 26 are formed with slots 36 for use in attaching the link to a vehicle. Two pairs of spaced rigid link bars 18 and an adjustable diagonal tie-rod 22 are secured by bolts 50, 51 to oppositely extending lugs on each inner end plate 27.
