Abstract

Multicellular organopolysiloxane elastomers comprise units of the formula <FORM:1117695/C3/1> in which R1, R2 and R3 are the same or different and are each substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, saturated or monoethylenically unsaturated monovalent alicyclic radicals of 5 to 6 ring carbon atoms, aryl, (lower alkyl) aryl or aryl (lower alkyl) and n is zero or an integer, the free valencies of the silicon atoms being attached to oxygen atoms. The term "lower" means a radical having not more than 4 carbon atoms. The elastomers may also contain units <FORM:1117695/C3/2> and <FORM:1117695/C3/3> in which R is a radical within the definition of R1, R2 and R3, m is an integer from 10 to 2000, and p is an integer from 2 to 12, and are linked to units of Formula (I) via oxygen atoms. The elastomer may be prepared by mixing together a liquid tetrahydrogeno polysiloxane <FORM:1117695/C3/4> water and a catalytic amount of either a hydroxylamino of formula R4(R5)NOH or an organosilicon compound containing, per molecule, at least 2 aminoxy groups of formula R4(R5)NO- directly attached to silicon, where R4 and R5 are each hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical. The mixture may also contain a diorgano polysiloxane of the formula <FORM:1117695/C3/5> or of the formula <FORM:1117695/C3/6> in which Z is a triorganosilyl radical, m is an integer from 10 to 2000 and q is an integer from 10 to 250. Fillers, pigments and surface-active agents may also be incorporated. The tetrahydrogenopolysiloxanes may be prepared (1) when n=0, by hydrolysis of a compound R3SiH2X where X is a hydrolysable atom or group, (2) when n\sF1, by reacting a compound R3SiH2X with a diorgano silanediol or an a ,o - dihydroxydiorgano polysiloxane or (3) when the compound contains at least 100 silicon atoms, by heating one or several cyclic or linear organopolysiloxanes of low degree of condensation in the presence of diorganosilyl sulphate and a linear diorganopolysiloxane. In Example (I) a tetrahydrogenopolysiloxane oil, silica, water and diethyl hydroxylamine are mixed and stirred and the mixture put into a mould, the walls of which are coated with "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark) for the blowing to take place at room temperature.
