Abstract

1,116,002. Change-speed gear. BROCKHOUSE ENGINEERING Ltd. 6 Sept., 1965 [10 Sept., 1964; 21 Nov., 1964], Nos. 37007/64 and 47472/64. Heading F2D. A modified tractor transmission comprises a gear case 10 and multi-speed gear of a known transmission, Fig. 1, not shown, of which the friction clutch and actuating mechanism in case portion 10b are replaced by a torque converter 25 and power shift reverse gear 26, the casing 10 being unchanged. The central power take-off shaft driven directly from a prime mover is retained but the drive shaft from the clutch is replaced by shaft 37 which carries the gear 22 driving the multi-speed gear. For forward drive, turbine 28 drives shaft 37 via shaft 29, member 30, clutch 34 and member 36 and reverse drive is through member 30, gears 31, 38, 39, 40, clutch 35 and member 36. The casing 41 is bolted to existing flanges 13 of casing 10 and is centralized by adjustable studs 43, Fig. 3, not shown. Actuating linkage for a valve controlling clutches 34, 35 and conduits leading from the converter to a cooler and from a sump of the multi-speed gear to pump 33 pass through casing apertures, Fig. 3, which previously housed the bearings of the clutch linkage. The easing 41 forms a sump 41a receiving cooling oil through passages 45, 46 supplied to the gear 26 by converter 25. A roller type pump 44 having inlet and outlet orifices 47, 48 below the level of clutch member 36, delivers oil to the multi-speed gear via passage 49; pump 44 and high pressure in passage 49 prevents oil returning to sump 41a. In the modification, Fig. 5, not shown, of a further known transmission, Fig. 4, not shown, the power take-off shaft is removed from casing portion 10a and the associated drive in the multi-speed gear portion of the casing is also removed. The converter and reverse gear is similar to that of Fig. 2, but oil is removed from sump 141a by being picked up by the rotating clutch and thrown against the wall of casing 141, ledges causing this oil to flow through a passage 149 into the multi-speed gear. In both modifications oil from the cooler may be provided with a separate pipe passing through a hole drilled in casing 10.
