Abstract

1,115,665. Distillation of alcoholic liquors; recovery of grain solids. HIRAM WALKER & SONS (SCOTLAND) Ltd. 26 April, 1966, No. 18123/66. Heading BIB. Alcoholic liquid prepared from grain, e.g. whisky, is distilled in column I and some of the spent wash liquor which collects in the base of the column flows out through pipe 7 and is partially vaporized in the tubes 5 of reboiler 2, the mixture of vapour and liquor being introduced into the column through pipe 8. Reboiler 2 is heated by withdrawing spent wash liquor from the base of the column through pipe 15, partially vaporizing this portion of the wash liquor at a pressure of 17 to 20 p.s.i.g. in boiler 10, separating the vapour from the concentrated wash liquor in separator 11, and conducting the vapour through pipe 19 into the vapour-chest of reboiler 2. The liquor level in the base of column 1 is maintained at X-X by a suitable controller, Boiler 10 is heated by steam supplied through pipe 17. Concentrated wash liquor, withdrawn from separator 11 through pipe 21 is evaporated for the recovery of spent grain solids in unit 23.
