Abstract
Polyureas or polyurea/polyurethanes are prepared by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a polymer or mixture of polymers containing two or more isocyanate-reactive groups, provided that the polymer or at least one of the polymer comprising the mixture of polymers, contains in the molecule at least one group of the formula <FORM:1115211/C3/1> wherein R1 and R2 represent hydrogen or halogen atoms or alkyl groups containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon radical. The polymers containing at least one aminomethyl-tetrahydropyranyl group may be of the polyester, polyesteramide or polyether type and may be obtained by reacting the polyester, polyesteramide or polyether all of which having two or more hydroxyl groups with a 2-aminomethyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran compound. Suitable polyesters and polyesteramide for reacting with the pyran-type compound are those obtained by reacting dicarboxylic acids and polyhydric alcohols with, if desired, diamines or amino alcohols. The polyethers may be polymers or copolymers of cyclic oxides or may be those prepared by the polymerization of an alkylene oxide with compounds such as water, glycols and primary monoamine. Exemplified polyethers which are all modified by reaction with 2-aminomethyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran are polypropylene glycol, oxypropylated glycerol and oxypropylated trimethylolpropane. Mixtures of unmodified polyesters, polyesteramides and polyethers with the above-mentioned modified polymers may also be used. Organic diisocyanates, triisocyanates, reaction products of an excess of diisocyanate with polyhydric alcohols, uretedione dimers, isocyanurate polymers of diisocyanates and isocyanate-ended prepolymer compositions may be used. A cellular material may be produced by incorporating water or a low-boiling inert liquid into the reaction mixture. Conventional catalysts, surface-active agents, foam-stabilizing agents, plasticizers, fire-proofing agents and antioxidants may also be incorporated into the reaction mixture.
