Abstract
1,115,093. Cam-shafts. G.K.N. SCREWS & FASTENERS Ltd. 16 Dec., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 55167/65. Headings F2K and F2U. [Also in Division B3] A prefabricated cam-shaft (Fig. 1, not shown) is built up from one or more cams (12) extruded from tube and arranged together with bearings 13 and an eccentric 14 on a tubular or solid shaft 11, the cams (12) being angularly and axially positioned by pegs 19 or (18) (Fig. 4, not shown) which internally engage the cams (12) and are mounted at 20 in accurately located holes 21 in the shaft 11, the whole of the space 17 between the or each cam (12), shaft 11 and peg 19 being filled with an adhesive or a soldering, brazing or welding alloy. The cams may be thickened at the apex during extrusion and the bearings 13 formed as an annular channel section member (30) (Fig. 5, not shown) having an interference fit, or keyed, on the shaft. The surface of the shaft and inner wall of the cams may be serrated or knurled (not shown) to provide a more secure joint therebetween.
