Abstract
1,114,759. Transmission arrangement.. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. 20 March, 1967 [11 Nov., 1966], No. 50716/66. Heading B7H. [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] A motor vehicle transmission arrangement comprises an engine (not shown) located adjacent a final drive unit 10 for a pair of road wheels, change-speed gearing 22 located between transfer gearing 18, 20 driven by clutch 12 and an interaxle differential 42 having a first output shaft 52 connected to drive unit 10, and a second output shaft 54 connected to drive a second pair of road wheels through a second final drive unit. The output from the gearing 22 is via the main shaft 34, but may alternatively be via the layshaft. The gearing 22 is of the constant-mesh type with doubleended synchromesh or dog-tooth clutches 36 and an idler gear 38 of a reverse gear train. In modifications the interaxle differential may be located on the side of unit 10 remote from the gearing 22 or on the side of the gearing 22 remote from unit 10. In the latter case the output shaft to unit 10 passes through an annular change-speed gearing mainshaft and gearwheel 20. The transfer gearing may be replaced by a chain or toothed belt drive.
