Abstract

1,114,358. Ion exchange. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 16 Nov., 1966 [16 Nov., 1965], No. 51293/66. Heading B1J. An ion-exchange apparatus has a nozzle plate 3, which is loaded by the exchanger bed, supported by and attached to a cylindrical body 1 which itself is attached to the bottom of the column. The body has a diameter within the range of 0.25 to 0.4 times that of the column, extends from the point of attachment to the nozzle plate, through and beyond the bottom of the column to such a position that the portion of the cylindrical body projecting from the bottom of the column has a length within the range of 1.2 to 1.3 times the souare root of the product of the diameter and the wall thickness of the cylindrical body. Liquid may pass through the lateral holes 4 to outlet 7. A manhole 8 may be provided.
