Abstract

An aerosol antiperspirant composition comprises an aerosol propellant, e.g. trichlorofluoromethane, dichlorodifluoromethane and an effective astringent consisting essentially of a liquid solution of aluminum hydroxy chloride in subtantially anhydrous ethanol. The two propellants specified above may be used as a 50/50 volume mixture. The compositions may also contain ethanol soluble bacteriostats, e.g. hexachlorophene, emollients, e.g. lanolin, fumigants, perfumes and humectants, e.g. propylene glycol.ALSO:An antiperspirant composition, comprising an astringent consisting essentially of a liquid solution of aluminium hydoxy chloride in substantially anhydrous ethanol, is prepared by dissolving aluminium hydroxy chloride in an amount of substantially anhydrous ethanol sufficient to solubilize the aluminium hydroxy chloride in the ethanol, the dissolving step including the step of aging. The astringent may be mixed with an aerosol propellant to provide an aerosol antiperspirant composition. The compositions may also contain ethanol-soluble bacteriostats (e.g. hexachlorophene), emollients (e.g. lanolin), fumigants, perfumes and humectants (e.g. propylene glycol). The ethanol contains less than 1% by weight of water.
