Abstract
1,113,515. Video recording & playback. LOEWE OPTA A.G. 23 March, 1966 [23 March, 1965], No. 16331/66. Heading G5R. Video, sound and control signals are recorded on and reproduced from a single magnetic tape channel by frequency modulating a carrier with the video signal and separately amplitude modulating two carriers spaced apart in the frequency spectrum below the frequency of the lowest frequency modulation signal with the sound and control signals. In the arrangement shown, the signals are recorded on oblique tracks on'the tape by a single magnetic head 4, rotating on a head wheel coupled to a braking disc 9. The video signal is amplified in unit 26 and frequency modulates a carrier in unit 27 which supplies an output signal in the band 0À5-4À5 Mc/s. to a recording amplifier 28. The picture sync. signal is separated from the video signal in units 30, 31 and triggers a 10 Kc/s. oscillator 32 to produce a burst of 10 Kc/s. signal during the occurrence of each frame sync. pulse. This signal amplitude modulates in unit 35 the 80 Kc/s. output of oscillator 33, which is also the erasing signal, and the modulated signal is applied to the input of recording amplifier 28. The sync. pulses are also applied, with pulses generated by the rotation of the brake disc 9, to a phase detector 39 which generates a signal to synchronize via braking unit 10 the speed of rotation of the head wheel and the sync. signals. The output frequency of the 80 Kc/s. erase oscillator is doubled in unit 36 to provide a 160 Kc/s. carrier which is amplitude modulated in unit 38 with the audio signal, and this modulated signal is combined with the other two modulated signals in recording amplifier 28, the output of which is connected to the recording head 4. During playback filtering and demodulating units recover the separate signals, the control signals being used to control the speed of rotation of the playback head wheel.
