Abstract
1,112,662. Refrigerating. CARRIER CORPORATION. 14 June, 1965 [23 June, 1964], No. 25110/65. Heading F4H. In a refrigeration system as described in Specification 1,112,663, the evaporator is modified to provide improved separation of the power fluid and refrigerant. As shown, the jet pump 39 is arranged to discharge against the bottom of the evaporator pan 127 to aid in condensing the steam which collects in the water sump 132. Refrigerant vapour and entrained steam pass upwardly between an end wall 133<SP>1</SP> of pan 127 and the end wall of the evaporator shell, then through a conduit 135 arranged above the evaporator tube bundle 128 to condense the steam. Conduit 135 discharges downwardly in an enclosure 137 from which refrigerant vapour is returned to the evaporator space through an aperture 138 in wall 133<SP>1</SP> and steam condensate is returned to sump 132 via a standpipe 139 and cup 140, the latter two members co-operating to form a liquid seal. The specification also describes a constructional form of the system (Figs. 3 to 7, not shown) and in a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the leakage and lubricating fluids from the turbo-compressor are passed directly to the evaporator and sump water is circulated to the compressor bearings.
