Abstract

1,112,243. Packaging-machines. ETABLISSEMENTS MAURICE HELIOT. 19 April, 1966 [27 April, 1965], No. 17095/66. Heading B8C. In apparatus for grouping bags 1 in a container 2 mounted on a conveyer 21, the bags are delivered by gravity from a conveyer 3 down a shoot 4 to the container past a microswitch 7 mounted on a wall 6, the switch 7 sending one electric pulse to a bag-counting device, and another pulse to activate a jack (9), Fig. 2 (not shown), which pushes pins (11) through holes 8 in the container end wall to force the bags past a boss (13) and corrugations (15) formed in the container base, and the bottom edge of wall 6, against a plate (16), Fig. 5 (not shown), suspended on a roller from a sloping rail (19) to urge the plate against the bags. When the requisite number of bags are in the container, the pulse sent by the switch 7 to the counting device when the last bag passes produces an auxiliary pulse from the counting device which activates a jack (20) to raise the rail 19, lifting the plate 16 from the filled container 2, and which indexes an empty container into the filling position. Once the container is in position, the rail 19 is automatically lowered. Alternatively, Figs. 6-13 (not shown), the container may have sloping internal side walls and the bags are stacked in alternate groups of predetermined number on the side walls by an electromagnetically actuated double-armed swing-bar (33, 34), one arm (33) or (34) being selectively projected over the end wall of the container to tip the bags against the respective side wall in response to a signal from the counting device. The plate 16 is mounted on a stationary rail (38) in the manner of a pendulum to obviate the necessity of raising rail (38) when indexing a filled container.
