Abstract
<PICT:1111749/C6-C7/1> A package containing a metallic article 4 e.g. a surgical instrument, razor blade and having part of its wall 3 transparent to maintain visibility of the packaged article, is steam sterilized in the presence of a corrosion inhibitor which is contained inside the package and/or is carried into the package with the sterilizing steam. In the former case, a protective molecular layer is formed on the steel article 4 by an octadecylamine, cetylamine or decylamine inhibitor coated at 7 on the paper base 2 of the package or contained in the package in the form of pellets or a strip coated with the inhibitor. When the inhibitor e.g. cyclohexylamine, benzylamine, morpholine is added to the autoclave water, the corrosive medium is neutralized. The articles may be arranged in paper, plastics, stainless steel or aluminium trays, galvanic corrosion between the tray and articles being thus prevented when the latter two are used.
