Abstract

1,111,735. Proximity switches. DOVER CORPORATION (CANADA) Ltd. June 15, 1966 [June 28, 1965], No.26602/66. Heading G1N. A proximity switching arrangement such as a "touch switch" for a lift system comprises a stable (i. e. fixed frequency) oscillator loosely coupled to a resonant receiver having a capacitance sensor plate, whereby the proximity of a conductive body detunes the receiver and thus reduces its output to operate a relay. As shown transistor T1 is connected in a Colpitts oscillator circuit having its tank-circuit loosely coupled to a resonant receiver circuit L2, C6, including a sensor plate SP. The output is rectified at D1 and applied through an opposing Zener diode D2 to a transistor T2 which is biased to the ON-condition in the absence of an input signal to hold transistor T3 switched OFF. In operation, the coupling between L1, L2 is adjusted to provide sufficient output to switch T2 OFF, so that when the circuit is detuned by the proximity sensor, T2 switches on and cuts off T3, and the collector voltage rises to operate relay XL.
