Abstract

1,111,660. Advancing mine roof supports. FAIREY ENGINEERING Ltd. Dec. 11, 1964 [Dec.12, 1963], No.49218/63. Heading F1P. In a self-advancing hydraulic roof support comprising a front support prop 10, a rear support prop 11, and a ram 12 for moving one prop relative to the other, the sequence of operations for automatically advancing the support is controlled by valves 14, 15, 16 having solenoids 20-23 energized by an electrical circuit Fig. 2, comprising pressure responsive switches 40, 41, 42, 50, 51, 52 arranged to operate at the conclusion of a step in the sequence to initiate the next step. The pressure switches are adapted to close when the associated ram reaches the limit of its travel or when a predetermined ram pressure is reached. The prop 10, 11 and ram 12 are each connected to a pressure line 18 and a return line 17 through respective valves 14, 15, 16. Each valve includes a solenoid operated pilot valve, a main valve controlled thereby and non- return valves 24, 25 for maintaining the pressure in the ram and props in the event of a failure in the pressure line. The electrical circuit comprises four relays 30-32 controlling respectively the energization of the solenoids 20-23 through throttle opening piston 45 is temporarily depressed to close pipe 19, being subsequently raised by spring 46.
