[Also in Division G3] An angular velocity sensor comprises annular perforated plates 21, 22 having glass balls 23 between them, arranged between discs 11 and 14 to form circular chambers 20, 30 having outlets 41, 52 which may be located on the axis 24 of the chamber, and inlet 33 for an electrically conductive fluid. Radial current flow through the fluid is produced by battery 70 connected to electrode 34 rigidly attached to the external wall 31, and an electrode 45 in the outlet 41. When the sensor is subjected to rotation about axis 24, the fluid is given a rotational velocity and thus varies the pressure difference measured by a pick-off 60. Piston 81 then adjusts a resistor 82 to vary the current in coil 36 surrounding the sensor assembly and thus produce a magnetic field which acts on the fluid to balance the vorticity and the current in coil 36 is indicative of the angular velocity of the sensor. The electrical arrangement may be provided in alternative manners as in Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
