Abstract

111,109. Golden, J. A. Nov. 4, 1916, [Convention date]. Kinematograph apparatus.- In a kinematograph camera of the type in which the pictures are taken in columns on a standard roll film, the film is mounted on a carrier which is reciprocated with a step by step motion, and is fed relatively to the carrier bv a spring mechanism controlled by an escapement operated by the means for reciprocating the carrier; the camera is applicable also as a projection apparatus. Fig. 2 shows a plan of the mechanism, and Fig. 1 shows a section on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2. The carrier comprises a plate 2 sliding in guides 3 in a yoke 1, and is operated by a handle on a shaft 12 through a Geneva mechanism 13. 14 carried by the yoke and moving substantially in the plane of travel of the carrier. The star wheel 14 of the Geneva mechanism carries a pinion 15 which engages a rectangular rack 16 forming pa.rt of a cam plate having a substantially rectangular track 17. The cam plate has a slot engaging a V-shaped guide 18 fixed on the carrier so that the cam plate and carrier move together vertically but relative horizontal movement between them is possible at the ends of each vertical movement, the pinion 15 at these times operating on the ends 21 of the rack 16. The film spools are mounted in plates 29, 30 secured to the plate 2, and the take-up spool is rotated through wheels 42, 43 by a clock spring during the horizontal movements of the cam plate. The film passes from the feed spool 31 between a drum 33 carrying an escapement wheel and a drum 36 pressed against the drum 33 by means of a spring. and then passes over an exposure slot 5 in a rib 4 carried by the plate 2 to the take-up spool. The escapement wheel has pins 56 alternately placed on its upper and lower surface and engaged respectively by the arms of a pawl 55 secured to lever arms 58, 59. A pin 60 on the cam plate 17 pushes one or other of the arms 58, 59 during its horizontal movements so as to release the escapement wheel, a spring 62 engaging an extension 61 of the arms so as to assist their movements and to bring the arm 58 into engagement with a stop 63 or the arm 59 into engagement with a stop 64. Exposures are made through an opening 6, and an opening 7 is provided for a light source for projection purposes. A shutter 11 is operated coutinuously from the pin wheel 13 through toothed wheels 23, 24 and bevel-wheels 26, 27. The takeup spool is held at the lower end by a movable lug which is mounted on a pin on the plate 30 and has a hollow pin engaging a hollow in the end of the spindle of the spool, the lug being held in position by a spring clip having a pin engaging within the hollow pin of the lug.
