Abstract
1,111,052. Selective signalling. ETABLISSEMENTS GUILLIET. 18 April, 1966, No. 16817/66. Heading G4H. In a system for the automatic positioning of the carriage of a machine tool, e.g. a saw, a pulse generator connected to the carriage control mechanism applies a pulse train to a binary decimal counting chain, the outputs of the counter being connected to a memory unit in which are entered decimal digits corresponding to the required carriage advance, thereby setting routing contacts which serve to compare the digits in the memory with the valve in the counter, and a motor-controlling relay being controlled by the comparator. The pulse generator comprises an apertured disc 23, which allows flashes of light to fall on to a photo-cell 27. The pulses are amplified and applied to the counter B1-B4, each stage of each decade having a mark and space output. The memory device has ten contacts for each decade D1-D4 and are each connected with the corresponding decade of the counter in such a way that when the number entered in the memory and the value in the counter decade agree, a " 1 " output is obtained on four output leads. A gate E1-E4 responds to this condition by giving a " 0 " output which is applied via relay 43 to stop the motor 3 and apply a brake. The position of the carriage is indicated on a meter dial, the energizing voltage being derived from a sliding potentiometer. The lost motion mechanism allows a small backward movement of the carriage without effecting the pulse generator.
