Abstract

10 - (b - Diethylaminopropionyl) - 2 - chlorophenothiazine is prepared by reacting 2-chlorophenothiazine with b -halopropionyl chloride, adding a water soluble alcohol to the reaction mixture in an amount sufficient to convert excess b -halopropionyl chloride into the corresponding ester of b -halo propionic acid, subsequently adding diethylamine to the reaction mixture so as to form bases with both the ester and phenothiazine and separating the phenothiazine derivative desired from the reaction mixture without isolating any intermediate compound. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 740,932.
