Abstract

A composition for treating wells is produced by preparing an epoxy-containing polymerizable mixture and rapidly coating the mixture onto particulate solids. the coating being completed in a time not substantially greater than five minutes after the mixture is prepared, to maintain the mixture at a temperature not significantly above the ambient temperature. The mixture may p contain a hardener and/or an accelerator. The amount of the mixture may be from 6 to 30 per cent by weight of the solids. The particle size may be in the range of from 10 to 100 mesh (U.S.S.). The solids may be organic e.g. coconut, walnut or ground nutshells, polymeric materials e.g. phenol-formaldehyde melamine, furfural, and furfuryl resins, or inorganic e.g. coke, slag, sand. The coated solids may subsequently be slurried in a vehicle in which the mixture is substantially insoluble. Fluid-producing wells are treated by introducing a slurry of the composition in a vehicle e.g. a liquid hydrocarbon which may be substantially free from aromatic hydrocarbons, through the well into a fluid-bearing stratum. A well treatment agent comprises a slurry of the composition in an aqueous or non aqueous vehicle in which the mixture is substantially insoluble e.g. crude oil. The concentration of coated particles in the vehicle may be from 0.25 to 10.0 pounds per U.S. gallon. The vehicle may be a hydrocarbon which may be substantially free from aromatic hydrocarbons. One or more fluids may be injected into the well before or after the slurry. The well can be back flushed or a slurry of uncoated particulate material, either the same or different from the coated particulate material, may be introduced before or after the slurry of coated particles.
