Abstract
Novel compounds of the formula <FORM:1107743/C2/1> wherein A is a -CH=CH- or a -CH2CH2-radical, R is an alkyl, aryl, bromoaryl, aralkyl or R1CO- radical, the R groups being the same or different, wherein R1 is a C1- 6 alkyl group or an aryl, bromoaryl or aralkyl group, and R2 is an alkyl or R1CO- radical are obtained by etherifying and/or acylating the corresponding trihydroxy compound or a derivative of it in which one or both of the phenolic groups are etherified. Therapeutic compositions having estrogenic properties and useful for promoting growth in meat-producing animals, contain the above compounds as active ingredient. The composition may be in a form suitable for oral or parenteral application, e.g. as a constituent of an animal foodstuff. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 951,349.
