Abstract

1,107,475. Feeding record tapes. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 1 Sept., 1966 [13 Sept., 1965], No. 39082/66. Heading G5R. [Also in Divisions B6 and G2] Strips 16 of film, paper, magnetic tape &c. on which are recorded by photographic, punching, or magnetic recording means, information which can readily be revealed by projection &c. means, are secured together at one end in a holder 12 for sliding movement relative to the holder, with their free ends 25 arranged in shingled array, and the holder is placed in an apparatus whereby a particular strip can readily be selected and fed through a projection &c. zone. When placed in the apparatus (Fig. 1), the strips 16 in the holder 12 are fed forward by an operating member (35) along a first path (76, Figs. 4 and 7) a second path perpendicular to the first path, and then forwardly in a third path (77). The free ends 25 of the strips 16 are engaged by a separator (87, Figs. 10 and 11) which is rockable about a pivot (88), and comprises guide lips (93, 94), a strip guide passage (92) between the lips, and outer guide surfaces (118, 119) for deflecting all but the selected strip. The selected strip passes through the passage (92), and then a projection or other reproducing zone (95, Figs. 4 and 5) which may be the focal plane of a projection lens system, comprising optical flats (96, 97), light source and condenser lens system (98, 99) of known kind. The holder 12 is channel-shaped, has a handle 18 secured thereto, spaced protuberances 19 and recesses 50 near the handle, a button (20, Fig. 3) on a slider plate 21 for engaging holes in the strips 16, and a button 22 having a central hole 23. The apparatus (10, Fig. 1) comprises a reader-printer having a support means (11) for the holder 12, an optical projection means, and a viewing screen (13). The support (11) has longitudinal slots (31, 32) in a plate (30) which supports a front panel (29) on which a graduated strip-selector knob (37) is mounted, and when the holder 12 is placed on the plate (30) the button 22 is opposite the slot (31) and the hole 23 therein is engaged by a pin (46, Fig. 8) on the slider operating member (35). The holder 12 is held in a fixed position by lugs (49) engaging the recesses 50, and by presser lugs (56, 57) engaging the top surface of the holder. The strip-selecting knob (37) operates a cylindrical member (66) having a helical ridge cam (661) which is engaged by spaced ears (71, 72) on a plate (70) of a control means (69) slidably engaging a rod (73). The plate (70) has an L- shaped cut-out forming the first path (76) and the second path (77) for the operating member (35), and co-operates with the slot (32) in the plate (30) of the support (11). Upon rotation of the knob (37), the plate (70) is moved relative to the slot (32) to adjust the position of the second path (77) relative to the slot (32) so that the length of the first path (76) corresponds substantially to the distance of the end of the selected strip (16) from the separator (87). The strip-advancing means (36) comprises the operating member (35) which moves along the slot (32), and a bracket (40), carrying the pin (46) which engages the button 22 in the holder 12, slidable on rods (44, 45). The separator (87) is rocked about its pivot (88) to selecting position by a cable (115) connected at its other end to a fixed bracket (47) and intermediately wrapped about a pulley (113) on a pivoted lever (111) of an actuating means (110). A roller (114) on the lever (111) co-operates with the operating member (35) so that the separator is moved into operative position when the member (35) leaves the first path (76). Instead of manual operation, the strip-advancing means (36) can be coupled to a motor drive provided with reversing means.
