Abstract

An unsaturated polyester resin capable of being cured in the cold after the addition of a peroxide comprises an unsaturated polyester, a polymerizable unsaturated monomer, a tertiary aromatic amine as a curing accelerator and 1 to 50 p.p.m. of copper in the form of a compound of monovalent or divalent copper as a stabilizer. Copper compounds mentioned are copper (I) chloride and copper (II) chloride, acetate, maleate, naphthenate, oleate, octoate, o-aminobenzoate, phthalate, tartrate and chelate complexes with acetoacetic ester, malonic ester, acetylacetone; salicyl aldehyde, salicyl aldoxime, anthranilic acid, benzoin oxime, cupferron, nitriloacetic acid or ethylene diamine tetracetic acid or amine complexes with primary, secondary or tertiary amines. Tertiary aromatic amines mentioned are N,N-dimethyl-aniline; N,N - diethylaniline; N,N - dimethyl - p - toluidine; N,N - diethyl - p-toluidine; N,N - bis - (b - hydroxyethyl) aniline; N,N - bis (b - hydroxyethyl) - cumidine; N,N - bis - (b - hydroxyethyl) - p-toluidine; N,N - bis - (hydroxypropyl) - p-toluidine and N - methyl - N - b - hydroxyethyl-p-toluidine.
