Abstract

1,106,699. Lightning conductors. GENERAL PROTECTION ESTABLISHMENT. 11 March, 1966 [12 March, 1965; 16 March, 1965], No. 10769/66. Heading H2C. The lightning conductor shown has a central earthed pointed rod 3, possiblycarrying sharp edges surrounded by an insulated electrode 7 carrying sharp points 2 and radio-active sources of Americium 241 to assist in initiating ionization. The rod may be provided with vertical ribs and the points may be omitted sharp edges being provided on the electrode 7 itself (Fig. 2, not shown). In further arrangements (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). A helical electrode secured to the central rod surrounds and provides an electrical field with the electrode carrying the radioactive sources.
