Abstract
a -Crystal phase 6,13-dihydroquinacridone is produced by heating to 200 DEG C. or above a dialkyl 2,5-dianilino-3,6-dihydroterephthalate under a high pressure in the substantial absence of oxygen and in the presence of an inert aromatic hydrocarbon boiling in the range 80 DEG to 210 DEG C. and separating the resultant a -crystal phase 6,13-dihydroquinacridone from the hydrocarbon. The heating preferably takes place at 200 DEG to 300 DEG C. under 8 to 55 kg./cm.2 pressure. Suitable aromatic hydrocarbons are benzene, toluene, xylene, hemimellitine, pseudocumene, mesitylene, isodurene, ethylbenzene and propylbenzene.
