Abstract
1,105,526. Liquid level indicators. K. D. G. INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 9 Aug. 1965 [8 May, 1964]. No. 19370/64. Heading G4H. The value of a variable is indicated by a transducer which generates an electric signal representing the variable, the signal being transmitted over a line to an indicator at a receiving station, the energizing current for the transducer being fed over two lines from the receiver station through a variable impedance used for calibrating the apparatus. The transducer comprises a float 3 in a tank 1 driving an endless tape 4 the upper pulley of which controls switching units 8, 9 and 10 representing successive decades. Each switching unit comprises a rotating magnet adapted to operate one of ten reed switches Sa-Sj to connect the corresponding tapping of potentiometer to Ra-Rj to the signalling line L3. The potentiometer is supplied over lines L1, L2 from the receiving, station. Variable resistors VR2, VR4 are provided in the supply lines and VR5 in the signal line. A stabilized voltage supply to lines L1, L2 is given by Zener diode D1. Another Zener diode D2 gives a stabilized voltage at the other side of the indicator D from the signal line L3. To calibrate the apparatus, the indicator is first disconnected by moving switch SA to the " 0 " position. The mechanical zero adjuster is then moved until the zero digit is properly positioned on the screen. Resistors VR2, VR4, VR6 and VR5 are moved to maximum, zero contact Sj is closed and switch SA moved to read position (R). Resistor VR1 is adjusted to bring the zero to the proper position. Contacts Sa are then closed, corresponding to digit 9 and resistor VR5 adjusted until the 9 digit is properly positioned. These adjustments for 0 and 9 are repeated until both are correct. Switch SA is then moved to the test position and a reference voltage from potentiometer VR3 is adjusted until the digit 9 is properly positioned on the indicator. The ganged resistors VR2 &c. are reduced according to the line resistance RL1, RL2 when the apparatus is installed.
