A pipe support system includes at least one pipe positioning device comprising a screw jack 6 driven by a reversible electric motor 4, or an hydraulic or pneumatic jack, means for measuring the position and temperature of the pipe 1 at the device, and means 7 which automatically compares the measured position with a, desired position of the pipe corresponding to the measured temperature according to a predetermined position-temperature relation and controlling the positioning device or devices to bring the measured position into coincidence with the desired position corresponding to the measured temperature.
