Abstract

1,105,263. Bending rods or tubes. CONSTRUCTORS JOHN BROWN Ltd. 6 April, 1965, No. 14594/65. Heading B5A. A plastics rod or tube is bent to a predetermined shape by feeding a predetermined length through a ring, heating in the vicinity of the ring and moving a member, e.g. a plate, across the exit face of the ring to contact and bind the rod or tube and repeating the operation along its length until the rod has assumed the required configuration. Radio frequency heating may be used or hot air may be blown through holes on the side of the ring. Several bending members may be provided to move in different directions across the face of the ring, and they may be controlled in operation by a punched or magnetic tape. The punched tape may be produced by feeding into a computer information derived in building a pilot structure from the tube, e.g. chemical plant, the computer modifying the information to provide for valves, flanges, drains &c. The plastics material may be polystyrene or P.V.C.
