Abstract

Novel compounds of the general formula <FORM:1104936/C2/1> (wherein X represents CF3 or C2F5, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are the same or different and represent H, halogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, OH, alkoxy, NO2, CN, thiocyano, isothiocyano, azido, COOH, carboxylic ester or amide, N-mono- or di-substituted carboxylic amide, NH2, mono- or di-substituted amino, SH, alkylthio or oxygenated derivatives thereof, sulphonic acid, ester, amide or substituted amide, or a heterocyclic ring attached through a nitrogen atom thereof, and R5 represents alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl) are prepared by reacting a chloroformate R5OCOCl with the corresponding 1-unsubstituted compounds in the presence of a base or with a preformed alkali metal derivative of the 1-unsubstituted compound.ALSO:Biocidal compositions contain, in association with a carrier, compounds of the general formula <FORM:1104936/A5-A6/1> (wherein X represents CF3 or C2F5, R1, R2,R3 and R4 are the same or different and represent H, halogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, OH, alkoxy, NO2, CN, thiocyano, isothiocyano, azido, COOH, carboxylic ester or amide, N-mono- or di-substituted carboxylic amide, NH2, mono- or di-substituted amino, SH, alkylthio or oxygenated derivatives thereof, sulphonic acid, ester, amide or substituted amide, or a heterocyclic ring attached through a nitrogen atom thereof, and R5 represents alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl) with or without other active ingredients such as herbicides (e.g. 2 - methyl - 4 - chlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2,4 - dichlorophenoxyacetic acid or a triazine), insecticides (e.g. DDT or the material sold under the registered Trade Mark "Sevin") or fungicides (e.g. a dithiocarbamate).
