Abstract
1,104,605. Burning refuse. VON ROLL A.G. 6 May, 1966. No. 20297/66. Heading F4B. Solid refuse, preheated and shredded by its passage over spiked rollers 14 in a chamber 1, is distributed to inlets 8 in a combustion chamber 3 by a rotating annular plate 2, and burnt with preheater air supplied tangentially through nozzles 6 which project through the waste falling down the sides of the chamber 3. The ash and incombustible waste is fused and molten slag removed through outlets 7, some of the waste gases passing through the outlets 7 to maintain the slag molten. Some of the hot gases pass out through inlets 8 to the preheating chamber 1. The main part of the waste gases pass through a Venturi outlet 10 to be mixed with cool waste gases from air preheater 11, waste heat boiler 12 and preheater 1 and supplied to an air preheater 11 and a waste heat boiler 12. The cooled gases are fed to a dust collector 13 and to an outlet flue 42 whence some of the gases are supplied by a fan 70 to attemperate the gases fed to the heat exchangers 11, 12, some of the gases are fed by a fan 44 to cool the bearings and drive of distributer plate 2 and thence to attemperate the gases fed to the preheater, the remainder passing to a stack. Dust collected at 31 from the gases leaving the preheater and at 32 from the heat exchanger outlet are returned to the combustion chamber 3 through the nozzles 6. Pasty or liquid waste or additional fuel are fed to the combustion chamber through pipes coaxial with the nozzles 6. The nozzles 6 are directed downwardly and tangentially to a circle of diameter not more than half that of the combustion chamber so as to agitate the slag bath 30. Cold air may be mixed with the gases fed from outlet flue 42 to cool the support and drive of the distributer plate 2.
