Abstract

1,104,251. Duplicating record tapes. J. M. AHY. 16 Oct., 1964 [16 Oct., 1963], No. 40848/63. Heading G5R. Signals recorded on an endless loop master band B are duplicated on a copy band B1 by passing the band B past a playback assembly 102 containing as many heads as there are tracks or part tracks and coupled through amplifier 106 to a similar recording assembly 105 acting on the copy band. If the signals were originally recorded on a single helical track on the master band, the latter is preferably cut and a blank section spliced in before duplicating; the blank section is initially set opposite the playback assembly 102 and the assemblies 102 and 105 are driven across the respective bands by cams 108 and 109 which rotate once whilst the band B makes one complete revolution. A marking device 110, e.g. a writing device, indicates the ends of the copies and a cutting device 107 cuts the copy band into record lengths.
