Abstract

A process for separating cycloparaffins or cyclo-olefins from mixtures containing them comprises contacting the mixture with a Type Y zeolite adsorbent whereby the cyclic compounds are selectively adsorbed. The mixture may be jet fuel, kerosene or lubricating oil. Conditions may be 70-800 DEG F., from subatmospheric pressure to 100 p.s.i.a., from 0.2 to 10 W./W./Hr. and from 1 minute to several hours. Desorption may be by vacuum, heating or preferably by the use of a displacing agent, e.g. SO2, CS2, C1 to C5 alcohols, ethylene or propylene glycol, alkyl halides or nitro compounds or preferably ammonia or an amine.ALSO:A process for separating cycloparaffins or cyclo-olefines from mixtures containing them comprises contacting the mixture with a Type Y zeolite adsorbent whereby the cyclic compounds are selectively adsorbed. The mixture may be jet fuel, kerosene or lubricating oil. Conditions may be 70-800 DEG F., from p subatmospheric pressure to 100 p.s.i.a., from 0.2 to 10W/W/Hr and from 1 minute to several hours. Desorption may be by vacuum, heating or preferably by the use of a displacing agent, e.g. SO2, CS2, C1 to C5 alcohols, ethylene or propylene glycol, alkyl halides, or nitro compounds or preferably ammonia or an amine.
