Abstract

1,104,113. Blow-moulding coated tubes. BRITISH XYLONITE CO. Ltd. 17 May, 1965 [19 May, 1964], No. 20503/64. Heading B5A. A tubular workpiece of organic thermoplastic material is coated externally and/or internally with a conditioning medium (as defined), to form a diffusion or protection barrier, or a coloured layer, heated to plasticize it and the coating (the two being compatible), expanded in a mould by internal fluid pressure and cooled thereby to form a hollow body at least one side of which is covered with a layer of the extended conditioning medium. The coating may be done by spraying, dipping or roller coating and the tube supported by a mandrel between mould halves during the blowing operation. Rigid P.V.C. may be coated with liquid epoxy resin. Other workpiece materials are polyethylene and polystyrene. Migration barrier materials are polyester and epoxy resins, polyvinylidene chloride and polyurethane which can also act as chemical barriers. Decorative gloss is provided by acrylic resins.
