Abstract

1,102,231. Photographic shutter. P. GOSSEN & CO. G.m.b.H. April 18, 1965 [Sept. 2, 1964], No. 20984/65. Heading G2A. An electrically operated photographic shutter which may also act as a diaphragm comprises a plurality of shutter blades 21 mounted on spring- biased opening and closing rings 1 and 2; on moving a slide 5 a switch 6 in a trigger circuit is closed, and simultaneously rings 1 and 2 are released whereby they rotate together until closing ring 2 is arrested by its lug 2a engaging an arm 13a of a lever 13 held by an electromagnet 16 having a coil 17; ring 1 continues rotating, thus opening the shutter blades until lug 1a thereon is arrested by a pin 8; after a time governed by the trigger circuit, the electromagnet 16 is deenergized whereby lug 2a is released, and closing ring 2 closes the shutter blades to terminate the exposure. The time taken for the threshold charge to be built up in a capacitor 27 in the trigger circuit, and hence the exposure time, is either determined automatically by a photoresistor 25, or preselected by connecting one of a set of resistances 29 to 33 into the circuit in place of the photo-cell. To prevent overexposure when the required exposure is below the range of the shutter, a switch 11 in the trigger circuit is opened temporarily by cam 1b, and if the threshold charge is built up in the circuit during this time lever 13 is released from the electromagnet 16 so that lug 2a is not arrested by the arm 13a and hence the shutter blades 21 do not open. The aperture defined by the shutter blades may be reduced by turning clockwise a plate 15 on which are mounted switch 14, locking lever 13 and electromagnet 16; the closing ring 1 is then arrested in a position in which the shutter blades 21 are unable to open fully. If a switch (35) is actuated Fig. 3 (not shown) a flash M-contact 7 is connected into the flash circuit on movement of slide 5, and a delay mechanism having a movable arm 10 engages a system of teeth 9 on a ring 1, and a flash X-contact 12 is closed by a lug 2b on ring 2 shortly before the shutter blades form the maximum aperture.
