Abstract

1,101,679. X-ray film holder. A. S. GIDLUND. 16 June, 1965 [14 July, 19641, No. 25428/65. Heading H5R. An apparatus for recording photographically the image generated during an X-ray examination comprises a stand located in a light tight magazine for mounting on an image intensifier, the stand carrying spools for supplying and receiving roll film, a feeding device for the film and a film flattening device comprising a movable intensifying screen and a stationary intensifying screen arranged on each side of an intermittently fed film, the movable screen being arranged on a bowed support mounted on a frame and caused by means of suspension joints arranged on the frame moved via a lever system to abut against the stationary screen so that air present between the screens is pressed out from the central portion of the screens towards their periphery as they approach each other. In Fig. 1, a light tight magazine 1 contains spool 2 for unexposed film 3 which runs via rollers between fixed screen 5 and movable screen 4 through a film feeding arrangement to cassette 6. Screen 4 is mounted on a bowed surface which is preferably formed of pre-tensioned aluminium strips mounted on the short sides of the frame, but it may also be a bowed metal sheet. Between the screen and the frame there may be placed an interlayer of a resilient material. The movement in screen 4 is induced by a lever system activated by a semi-wheel 10 in synchronism with the intermittent movement of the film which is induced by a further semi-wheel 8 having portions 8a, 8b of different radii, portion 8a nipping the film against counter roller 9 to induce movement and portion 8b failing to reach the film. The lever system operated by the semi-wheel 10 (Fig. 3, not shown) may comprise two slides which run along the length of the movable frame 4, there being two suspension units on each slide unit comprising a triangular array of pins, one being pivoted in the frame, one in the slide and one in the supporting means for the frame so that lateral movement of the slides induces screen 4 to approach screen 5. A braking system comprising at least one frictional strip which is forced into contact with the film by driving means on the frame before screen 4 touches the film is fitted to the frame.
