Abstract
A composition suitable for treating keratinous fibre fabrics comprises a solution of a polysulph-hydryl polymer which is a polymer in which the backbone consists of saturated carbon atoms or saturated carbon atoms and oxygen, nitrogen or sulphur atoms which contains one or, at more or less regular intervals, more -SH radicals either joined directly to the polymer chain or via intermediate groupings, e.g. amide and ester groupings. The solution may contain 1-20% by weight of the polysulph-hydryl polymer and may be adjusted to a pH of 3.5-10 by, for example, the addition of ammonia or monoethanolamine. Specified polymers are those obtained by the reaction of b -mercapto ethylamine with a styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer or maleic anhydride/ethylene copolymer, by the reaction of N-(b -aminoethyl)thioglycolamide with an ethylene/maleic anhydride copolymer, by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine and N,N-diethylpropylene diamine with an ethylene/maleic anhydride copolymer, by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine and n-butylamine with a vinyl acetate/maleic anhydride copolymer, by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine or N(b -aminoethyl)-thioglycolamide with a vinyl acetate/maleic anhydride copolymer or by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine alone or in admixture with butylamine with poly-(maleic anhydride). The composition may be in the form of an aerosol composition the propellant being dichlorodifluoromethane, trichloromonofluoromethane or butane, and optionally containing an anti-foam silicone, a fatty alcohol polyethyoxyether or alkyl phenol polyethoxyether, or may be applied by means of a rotating ball liquid dispenser bottle.ALSO:An aerosol composition suitable for treating keratinous fibre fabrics comprises a solution of a polysulph-hydryl polymer which is a polymer in which the backbone consists of saturated carbon atoms or saturated carbon atoms and oxygen, nitrogen or sulphur atoms which contains one or, at more or less regular intervals, more -SH radicals either joined directly to the polymer chain or via intermediate groupings, e.g. amide and ester groupings. The solution may contain 1-20% by weight of the polysulph-hydryl polymer and may be adjusted to a pH of 3.5-10 by, for example, the addition of ammonia or monoethanolamine. The propellent may be dichlorodifluoromethane, trichloromonofluoro-methane or butane and the composition may optionally contain an anti-foam silicone, a fatty alcohol polyethoxyether or alkyl phenolpolyethoxyether, specified polymers are those obtained by the reaction of b -mercapto ethylamine with a styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer or maleic anhydride/ethylene copolymer, by the reaction of N-(b -aminoethyl) thioglycolamide with an ethylene/maleic anhydride copolymer, by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine and N,N-diethylpropylene diamine with an ethylene/maleic anhydride copolymer, by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine and n-butylamine with a vinyl acetate/maleic anhydride copolymer, by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine or N-(b -aminoethyl)-thioglycolamide with a vinyl acetate/maleic anhydride copolymer or by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine alone or in admixture with butylamine with poly (maleic anhydride).ALSO:Durable creases are imparted to fabrics comprising keratinic fibres, e.g. wool, alpaca, camel hair or mohair, by treating them with a solution of a polysulph-hydryl polymer at the location where it is desired to form the crease and forming the crease by applying heat and pressure, e.g. by means of a hot iron or clothes press, to the impregnated fabric while it is arranged in the form of a crease. The polysulph-hydryl polymer is a polymer in which the backbone consists of saturated carbon atoms or saturated carbon atoms and oxygen, nitrogen or sulphur atoms which contains one or, at more or less regular intervals, more -SH radicals either joined directly to the polymer chain or via intermediate groupings, e.g. amide and ester groupings. An aqueous solution containing 1-20% by weight of the polysulph - hydryl polymer and having a pH of 3.5-10 adjusted by, for example, the addition of ammonia or monoethanol amine may be used. Polysulph-hydryl polymers obtained by the reaction of b -mercapto ethylamine with a styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer or maleic anhydride/ethylene copolymer, by the reaction of N-(b -aminoethyl) thioglycolamide with an ethylene/maleic anyhydride copolymer by the reaction of b -mercapto ethylamine and N,N-diethylpropylene diamine with an ethylene/maleic anhydride copolymer, by the reaction of b -mercapto ethylamine and n-butylamine with a vinyl acetate/maleic anhydride copolymer by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine or N-(b -aminoethyl)-thioglycolamide with a vinyl acetate/maleic anhydride copolymer or by the reaction of b -mercaptoethylamine alone or in admixture with butylamine with poly(maleic anhydride) are examples of numerous suitable polymers indicated. The treating composition may be used in the form of an aerosol composition, the propellent being dichlorodifluoromethane, trichloromonofluoromethane or butane, and optionally containing an anti-foam silicone, a fatty alcohol polyethoxyether or alkylphenol polyethoxyether, or may be applied by means of a rotating ball liquid dispenser bottle. The fabric may be a woven or knitted fabric, lace or felt.
