Abstract

1,100,838. Door fastenings; door operating mechanism. J. SCHWARTZ and M. TROUVAIN. 8, March, 1965 [7, March, 1964], No. 9741/65. Headings E2A and E2M. A door-fastening device comprises a shutter 6 movable under the influence of a change in pressure on one side of the door into a position in which it causes the door to be fastened to the door frame. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the shutter 6 is pivoted to a hollow door 1 at 7 and is held in the position shown in solid lines by springs 11, 12. Apertures 5 are formed in the panels 1a of the door near the shutter and are covered by perforated cages 3, 4. When pressure increases on one side of the door air currents pass through perforations 3<SP>1</SP> or 4<SP>1</SP> in the cages 3 or 4 to swing the shutter so that a fastening member 8 thereon engages in a channel 10 in the door frame 9 to fasten the door. In a second embodiment the door is solid and the cages and shutter are mounted on a hollow door frame. In a further embodiment the shutter is mounted in a hollow door opposite an aperture and cage on one panel of the door and apertures in ,the other panel, and is connected by linkwork to a sliding bolt spring-loaded to its releasing position. In another embodiment shutters are provided at the ends of a pipe mounted. in the framework of the door, and are connected by adjustable linkage to a spring-loaded sliding bolt. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3, shutters 17, 20 are hinged to each side of leaves 13, 14 of a door, the shutters being hinged at 16, 16<SP>1</SP> to further shutters 18, 21 respectively and held in the positions shown by springs 19 and 22. The shutters cover apertures 15 in the door and when pressure increases on one side of the door the shutters on that side are pressed flat against the door so that their free edges 181 or 21<SP>1</SP> enter channels 23 in the door frame to fasten the door. Door operating mechanism, Fig. 4, which holds pivoted leaves 56, 57 in the closed position shown, comprises cables 60<SP>1</SP> 61<SP>1</SP> secured to opposite faces of the leaves and passing round pulleys 60, 61 respectively to the rims of which are attached cables 68, 69 respectively carrying at their other ends a counterweight 59 slidable in a hollow pillar 58. Opening of either leaf causes opening of the other leaf, rotation of the pulleys under the action of cables 60<SP>1</SP>, 61<SP>1</SP> and consequent raising of the countenweight as the cables 68, 69 are wound round the pulleys. When the leaf is released the counterweight falls to close the leaves.
