Abstract
A process for the manufacture of an anti-static heat-sealable packaging film comprises coating at least one surface of a base film of a hydrophobic polymeric organic material with a heatsealable nitro cellulose coating composition, drying the coating or each coating and then applying over the nitro cellulose coating or each nitro cellulose coating a top coating of an aqueous solution of an anti-static coating composition comprising a mixture of between 1 and 200 parts by weight of an alkali metal salt of lactic acid and 1 part by weight of hydroxyethyl cellulose followed by drying the top coating. Specified base films are polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene-1, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene and polyesters. The nitro cellulose is preferably employed in the form of a lacquer which may contain plasticisers, blending agents, slip agents and antiblocking agents.
