Abstract

1,098,782. Radio and inductive signalling; substation equipment and circuits. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Feb. 4, 1966 [Feb. 11, 1965], No. 4971/66. Addition to 1,098,729. Headings H4J, H4K, H4L, H4R and H4U. A cordless handset for a telephone subscriber's apparatus comprises a dynamic microphone 4, Fig. 1, whose amplified output modulates a radio transmitter having a tank coil 1 coupled to a ferrite rod aerial 2, and an inductive pick-up coil 7, with a high-permeability core disposed at right-angles to the aerial 2, said coil 7 being connected via an audio amplifier, with negative feedback for reducing mains hum, to a receiver 5. The handset circuits, Figs. 4, 5, 6 (not shown), are transistorized and are powered by secondary cells 8, which are disconnected from the circuits by a mercury switch 9 when the handset is replaced upon its cradle, and may then be charged from the telephone line, or by a mains charging unit provided, via three contacts 10, the outer pair of which are in parallel. The associated instrument body comprises an inductive transmitting loop 14, Fig. 3, which is driven by an amplifier unit 15, and a ferrite receiving aerial rod 11 with a winding 12, which is connected to an amplifying-detecting-output unit 13 having automatic gain control. The units 13, 15 are transistorized and power is supplied from -the telephone line through a cradle switch contact (49), Fig. 9 (not shown), and a series choke coil (34). A bridge rectifier (Fig. 10, not shown) may be provided to guard against line polarity reversal.
