Abstract

109,798. Naul, J. M. March 10, 1916, [Convention date]. Electric switches.-Consists of a combined lighting and ignition switch, for motor-cars, motor-boats, &c. having a switch arm which may be moved into any one of a number of positions, for controlling the lights, and locked in any one of these positions against unauthorized movement, the ignition system being rendered inoperative simultaneously with the locking, as by earth. ing a point in it by means of an auxiliary switch actuated by the locking-mechanism. The leads of the lighting circuits are connected to the fixed contacts 11 which consist of studs fixed in the insulating-base 6 of the casing 4 and slotted to receive the moving contact member which comprises two disks 16 formed with segmental projections and mounted on a hollow stud 12. A disk of insulating-material secured on the face of the contact member has two holes to receive pins 20 on the driving-disk 9, the spindle of which carries a handle 7. A cylindrical locking-block 23, having a flat on one side, may be caused to engage with any one of a series of notches on the disk 9. The block is turned by a key 25 which can be introduced and withdrawn only when the block is in such a position that its cylindrical surface engages. and locks the disk. The auxiliary switch is mounted opposite the end of the locking block; it consists of a blade 26 pressed down by a spring and adapted to contact with the end of the stud 11<1> connected to the ignition circuit. Normally, the switch is open; it is closed by the projection on the locking-block when this is in locking position and earths the ignition circuit through the switch casing. The earthing may be effected bv the main switch when this is in the " off position," by means of a spring-pressed blade 21, mounted on the pins 20, which makes contact with the head of the stud 11<11>, connected to the stud 11<1> by a wire 28. The stud 11" is taller than the others and the slots in the studs .11' and 11" are wider than the moving contactmember.
