Abstract

Anti-smoking dentifrices consist essentially of water, a dental abrasive which is stable at a pH in the range of from 3.5 to 11.5, a binder and a compound chosen from silver nitrate, zinc acetate, the ethyl ester of p-amino salicylic acid and the ethyl ester of p-aminobenzoic acid. Specified dental abrasives include calcium orthophosphates, calcium pyrophosphate, insoluble calcium metaphosphate, insoluble sodium metaphosphate, stannous metaphosphate, stannous pyrophosphate, and alumina. The binder may be sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethylene oxides, gums, e.g. gum karaya, Irish moss, alginates, colloidal magnesium aluminium silicate, or finely divided silica.
