Abstract
1,096,989. Removing oil vapour and droplets from gas. McGRAW-EDISON CO. Dec. 2, 1966, No. 54008/66. Headings B1L and B1T. Gas with entrained oil in vapour and particle form passes from inlet 16 through an array of coalescing units 22, mounted on conduits 25 extending from dividing plate 17, and subsequently passes inwards through active alumina or active carbon adsorbent 38 to outlet 14. A preliminary filter 49 may remove solid particles. Units 22 (Figs. 2, 3 not shown) comprise elements 27 of sintered metal or cellulose enclosed in Neoprene cups 26 mounted in overlapping fashion on conduits 25 of different lengths. Elements 27 have pores below 1 micron and coalesce oil into large drops which run from conduits 25 or are thrown on to the wall of vessel 11 as the gas flows radially outwards across the top of unit 23, which adsorbs the oil vapour. The adsorbent 38 is packed between perforate concentric metal screens 36, 37 and end caps 40. The lower end cap rests on annular support plate 44 to leave a sump around the outlet conduit 14, from which accumulated oil is withdrawn by line 46.
