Abstract

1,095,658. Brushes for electrical machines; couplings. LE CARBONE (HOLDINGS) Ltd. Oct. 28, 1965 [Oct. 28, 1964], No. 44028/64. Headings H2A and H2E. A carbon electrical contact brush 1, e.g. for commutator and slip ring machines, has no current carrying flexible but a high electrical conductivity length 2 of metal extending transversely in the brush top and making a low electrical resistance connection therewith, at least a portion of the length having an exposed upwardly facing surface for receiving a pressure finger through which electrical current may flow to and from the brush, and a lower part of at least a portion of the length being embedded in and laterally enclosed by the carbon. The length may be a cylindrical riveted Cu or Ag rod, tube, plate or strip, or a nut and bolt sealed by burning; or it may be a less conductive material plated with Cu or Ag and a resin/electrically conductive metal dispersion may be provided between the length 2 and carbon 1. The carbon surfaces engaged by the length may also be plated.
