Abstract
1,095,460. Discharge lamp circuits. BERKEY PHOTO Inc. Sept. 29, 1966 [Feb. 10, 1966], No. 43485/66. Heading H2H. A circuit for operating a Xenon or other gas discharge lamp from an A.C. source comprises a series impedance, a capacitor 9, a solid state switching device, and a means for ionizing the lamp 11. The impedance may be incorporated in a transformer 5 and the solid state device may be a Shockley diode a triode or a pair of thyristors. A starting circuit 19-21 applies to one or more pulses per half cycle in series with or parallel to the lamp or to a starting electrode (Fig. 1, not shown) which pulses may be controlled in phase relative to the source and which may be discontinued when the electrodes are self emissive. Alternatively the capacitor 9 may be series connected.
