Abstract

Reels, rod.-During unwinding, the spool may be free or subjected to the regulatable constraint of a friction clutch between the spool and the winding-means which is mechanically prevented from rotating reversely, the constraint being constant until the adjusting means, which remains stationary whilst the line runs out, is manipulated. Sleeves 2, 10 turn on ball bearings on a spindle 4 and carry respectively the spool 1 and an adjusting wheel 8 which, on being rotated, moves the screwed-on winding disk 6 into or out of frictional engagement with the spool flange 18. A pawl on the spool casing engages notches in the edge of the disk to prevent reverse rotation. A leather or other washer 17 is arranged as shown, or alternatively, a conical part of the disk may engage a like recess in the spool flange. The spool is positioned on its sleeve 2 by a shoulder 21 which is sufficiently large to pass over the sleeve 10 after the wheel 8 is removed, thereby permitting the substitution of a fresh spool without altering the adjustment of the reel. Check mechanism 22 is provided.
