Abstract

1,095,313. Vehicle wheel suspensions. CRANE FRUEHAUF TRAILERS Ltd. July 6, 1964 [July 4, 1963], No. 26542/63. Heading B7D. A vehicle hydraulic suspension arrangement comprises an axle 2 pivotable about an axis spaced from and parallel to the wheel axis and an hydraulic cylinder 12 which supports the vehicle load only and extends within the centre boss 10 on which .the whole axle assembly turns when steering. The axle 2 is pivotable about a pivot pin 4 which is mounted in a link 5 which is pivotally connected at its ends by parallel pins 6 and 16 respectively to an extension 7 of the steering head (9) (Fig. 2, not shown) and to the lower end of the hydraulic cylinder 12. The piston of the hydraulic unit is connected to the top of the steering head (9) by a spherical joint (14). In an alternative, (Fig. 3, not shown) the lower end of the cylinder 12 is connected to the link 5 by a spherical joint (17) retained in position by a loosely fitting bolt (18) passing through the centre of the joint.
