Abstract
1,095,303. Compositions of an isotactic polymer of 4-methylpentene-1. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. Oct. 14, 1966 [Oct. 20, 1965], No. 44389/65. Heading C3P. A transparent composition comprises a major proportion by weight of a substantially isotactic polymer of 4-methylpentene-1 and a minor proportion of a rubbery copolymer of 4-methyl-pentene-1 and a linear alpha olefin, a rubbery homopolymer of a linear alpha olefin or a substantially crystalline copolymer of 4-methylpentene-1 and a linear alpha olefin of higher impact strength than a substantially crystalline homopolymer of 4-methylpentene-1, the minor proportion being compatible with the major proportion, and the composition having an Izod impact strength of at least 1À5 foot pounds/inch notch at 20‹ C. In the Examples an amorphous, rubbery copolymer of 4-methyl pentene-1 and hexene-1 was prepared using a catalyst comprising TiCl 3 and AlEt 2 Cl and blended with a crystalline homopolymer of 4-methylpentene-1 prepared using the same catalyst by dissolving the copolymer in warm heptane and adding the crystalline polymer.
