Abstract
A porous carbon electrode is formed by pressing a mixture of activated vegetable carbon, acetylene black and polymethylmethacrylate into the required form. The vegetable carbon may be activated coconut shell carbon. The electrode may contain 5-15% acetylene black and 1.5-3% polymethylmethacrylate. The carbon and acetylene black may be mixed with a solution of the polymer in e.g. benzene or trichlorethylene, pressed in a mould at 0.25-0.5 tons/sq. in., and the resulting electrode weather-dried in the mould.
